I live in a small village and this linocut is based on a view on one of my daily walks. I always take my camera and use my phone to capture images, these are used back in the studio together with my drawings/painting completed in situ.
The linocuts are drawn out in pencil the correct size, onto paper and then traced so that the image can be reversed. This is very important as otherwise if the image when printed will be back to front! I have made this mistake quite a few times when I first started making linocuts. I also write detailed notes overtime I print so that mistakes can be minimised. These are not kept in my sketchbook as they would be become lost amongst the drawings, but kept in A4/A5 notebooks and each printing session dated so I can easily find information.
