Print size: 42 cm X 29.5 cm
We visited Sussex in October 2017 staying near Alfriston. A very windy weekend of sun and showers, fantastic walking and scenery. I love the coast and especially the in-between, the tide line, marshes, the merging of land and sea. I always take my camera and use my phone to capture images, these are used back in the studio together with my drawings/painting completed in situ.
The linocuts are drawn out in pencil the correct size, (these are A3, 42 cm x 29.7 cm) onto paper and then traced so that the image can be reversed. This is very important as otherwise if the image when printed will be back to front! I have made this mistake quite a few times when I first started making linocuts. I also write detailed notes overtime I print so that mistakes can be minimised. These are not kept in my sketchbook as they would be become lost amongst the drawings, but kept in A4/A5 notebooks and each printing session dated so I can easily find information.
