Printmaking has been an important aspect of Jan’s work since she was an undergraduate studying for her degree in Textiles and Fashion at Winchester School of Art. She was able to access the printmaking department and discovered monoprinting. Jan used this technique to create part of the body of work which was then translated into woven fabrics, rugs and wallhangings.

Jan loves the immediacy of the technique and over the last four years, she has had the opportunity to expand her knowledge of various printmaking techniques such as monoprinting/monotype, photopolymer etching, linocut, collagraph and drypoint.

Her inspiration comes from all aspects of nature and the environment, quite often Hampshire, but also landscapes and seascapes that she sees whilst walking in different parts of the UK and abroad.
